For the Auto Shanghai 2017 show, BMW prepared another treat - a very special version of BMW i8, the world's highest-selling plug-in hybrid sports car.

What makes BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Yellow Edition so exceptional is the - as the name already suggests - exclusive yellow paint finish, but there's more than that. Like the newly designed 20-inch light-alloy wheels and a few distinctive interior design cues. In other respects, it is the same as all other i8 versions, with i8 being the model that is not merely highly successful, but - according to Bavarians - has also played a significant role (together with the all-electric i3) in developing BMW eDrive drive system technology. This same technology is now being installed in six BMW model ranges and one MINI.

In Shanghai, visitors were also able to see the Asian premiere of BMW Concept X2 and BMW X4 as well as the world premiere of the all-new BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase. The latter will be built by BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. and produced exclusively for the Chinese market at the Shenyang facility. With a 133-millimetre-longer wheelbase, BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase will ensure a lot of ride comfort for the passengers in the back as well.
