After winning the first race of the season and the placing only 19th in the second, Swiss Renault e.Dams driver has closed the gap to Lucas di Grassi, who leads the championship standings, to 8 points. Buemi started fifth, but produced a thrilling drive to claim to the top step of the podium, overtaking di Grassi, DS Virgin car of Sam Bird an then pole-sitter Jerome D'Ambrosio before half-race car change.

Di Grassi started the race on the dirty side of the grid, and then made a mistake trying to overtake Duval, almost hitting the wall. He was passed by his teammate Daniel Abt, but di Grassi pushed back past him and caught Bird and Duval, passing them during the mandatory car-change pitstop. Bird dropped out with car trouble, and pole-sitter D'Ambrosio held on to final podium placing.

Jacques Villeneuve had to miss the race altogether after crashing heavily in qualifying and damaging one of his cars beyond repair.

Next race takes place in Buenos Aired in Argentina of February 6th, followed by Mexico City and Long Beach races before Formula E comes to Europe (Paris, 23rd of April).
