Aston Martin's CEO Andy Palmer confirmed for Automotive News at the Concours d'Elegance Pebble Beach event, that the British brand of sport cars will present an entirely electrical version of its Rapide with four doors sometime in the next two years. Electrical version by the DBX hybrid will follow until the end of the decade, with the study prepared in spring. The electrical Rapide will be equipped with a four-wheel drive and eletro-motors with the total of 800 horse power, while the batteries will allow more that 300 kilometers of driving.
In regard to the price, Palmer wasn't specific but he did indicate it will be somewhere in the range of 200 and 250 thousand American dollars, which means that the electrical Rapide will be 25 to 30 % more expensive than the most expensive Tesla S P90D. Therefore, Aston Martin is not planning to complete directly with Tesla but aims for a higher class. Palmer commented on this decision: "The buyers in this class are looking for something, which is more than a mere technological toy. They also expect tradition."
