Recently announced Volvo XC40 EV will only slightly differ from regular, petrol driven version. Just a few touches will on the outside be different, so one will need to have quite a sharp view to be able to see differences between them. Same on the inside. But there is, however, going to be one important new element and that is the infotainment, which is going to be entirely new.

In fact, guys at Volvo have decided to become the first company to use an infotainment system, that is entirely based on Google’s Android OS. This in terms, means, it will also offer all the applications, we are already using on all of are smart phones, basing on the same system like Google Assistant, Google store and off course, Google Maps.

“We are finally giving you the same experience in your car that you’re used to on your phone, but adapted for safe interaction while driving,” says Henrik Green, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Cars. “And by introducing over-the-air updates for everything from maintenance to completely new features, the car can stay as fresh as your other digital products, always with the latest and greatest features.”

While there will be most of the functions, available on smart phones, which will user be familiar with, there will also be other functions of the car, connected to the system. Driver will thus, for instance be able to control the air condition, setting destination and other things, using only their voice. On the other hand, system will also be able to communicate with existing Volvo services, such as  Volvo On Call, that enables to pre-heat the car or check the battery status. It is a win-win situation.
