In Beijing Toyota announced, that it will introduce ten new electrified vehicles to the Chinese market by the end of 2020. Among them are also plug-in hybrid versions of the popular sedans Corolla and Levin, which will hit Chinese market in 2019, as well as a battery electric version of Toyota C-HR/IZOA crossover, which will become available to customers in 2020.

The plug-in hybrid versions of Corolla and Levin, which are expected to have up to 50 kilometers of electric range, will be built in China and will thus become Toyota's first plug-in hybrids, produced outside Japan. Nothing particular was said about BEV versions of Toyota C-HR/IZOA, with the exception, that the car be produced by GAC Toyota Motor with as the C-HR and by FAW Toyota Motor Sales with as the IZOA.

Also key assembly for both cars will be produced locally. Among them are transaxles for hybrid electric vehicle and NiMH battery modules, which should reach annual production of 220.000 units in 2020. In 2020 Toyota also plans to open a new battery testing facility in China.

In 2017 Toyota sold approximately 140.000 electrified vehicles in China, which brought the total number of electrified cars sold to about 350.000. Important among them were also sedans Corolla Hybrid and Levin Hybrid, which were brought to Chinese market last year.
