Car industry has been in the last few years developing with a speed of light, especially on the field of power plants. This is without a doubt one of the consequences of Dieselgate scandal, caused by Volkswagen in 2015. Speaking of Volkswagen, German company is currently one of the most actively involved in the process of electrification. Furthermore, they are also setting the shortest deadline on when era of ICE’s will come to the end.
Currently, Volkswagen is working hard on presenting the first vehicle from a new line of electric cars, the I.D. hatchback, which should be here in about one-year time. Not long after however, they will stop the development on ICE’s. “Our colleagues are working on the last platform for vehicles that aren’t CO2 neutral. We’re gradually fading out combustion engines to the absolute minimum,” said Volkswagen’s strategy chief Michael Jost in Thursday.
As mentioned by Jost, production of ICE’s will not be shut down completely however. At least for a while that is, as the company is still planning to produce such vehicles for countries in development, where access to electricity is still more of a luxury than everyday commodity. ICE’s could thus tay in production up until 2050.
