We are used to walking on trash, but imagine walking in trash! Help getting plastic out of the oceans with your feet.
Sports retailer Adidas and conservation organization called Parley for the Oceans teamed up to put the ocean's overwhelming amount of trash to good use. Adidas created an initial prototype for an ecologically-beneficial shoe, made almost completely from recycled trash from the ocean. Parley for the Oceans collected the materials on a 110-day expedition off the coast of West Africa.
"We use what we need for the shoe and waste nothing," says Eric Liedtke, Adidas Group executive board member of global brands. Unfortunately shoes are not for sale and may never be, but the shoe company will start introducing recycled plastic into the manufacturing of its shoes by early 2016.
