"The problem with puzzles today is they are either simple and cheap or hand crafted and supremely expensive," says Brady Whitney, the designer and mastermind behind the mind-boggling Codex Silenda. The former are being mass produced and the latter are extremely limited. We wholeheartedly agree.

Codex Silenda is a five page book with five wonderfully designed, intricate puzzles. On each page you can find a unique puzzle that was crafted by lasers and assembled by hand. Each puzzle requires the user/reader to unlock the corresponding bolts in order to progress to the next page. If you can't solve the puzzle, you can't continue over to the next page. Hah! Nice one to keep us up at night.

What is it all about then? If this is a book, is there a story in it? Of course! The team (Brady Whitney, Hanna Humphrey and - sweetly - also Koda the Labrador) explains: "As the puzzler moves through the book, a story begins to unfold, depicting the story of an apprentice in Da Vinci's Workshop who encounters the same Codex. However in the story the Codex acts as a trap set by Da Vinci to capture any would be spies/snoopy apprentices in order to protect his work. The only way to escape is to solve each of the puzzles before the master returns from his trip."

To learn more about each page, head over to the team's website.

With almost 2,500 backers and over $200,000 pledged (out of $30,000 goal) the Codex Silenda project is currently still being crowdfunded on Kickstarter - check it out here.
