PlantNet (a.k.a. Pl@ntNet) is a wonderful and easy to use tool that helps you identify plants with pictures.
If are you keen on knowing more about the flora around you, especially when you travel to foreign places and would like to know more about the flowers that grow there, this app helps identifying plant species from photographs, through a visual recognition software.
The app uses a botanical reference database with numerous plant species, documented and illustrated, so you can easily recognize and identify them. It works on different territories, grouped into four sections - Western Europe, Indian Ocean, South America and North Africa. The database is regularly updated with photographs and new entries of plant species, so it grows continously with contributions of enthusiastic end users to the project.
Developed by scientists from four French research organisations (Cirad, INRA, Inria and IRD), and the Tela Botanica network, with the financial support of Agropolis fondation, this image sharing and retrieval application for the identification of plants can be downloaded free of charge from iOS App Store and Android's Google Play.
