Because electric delivery vans can be made and they can be offered at affordable prices.

We have already reported on German postal service building their own electric vehicles and how it is very possible that they'll be selling them to other companies and even countries very soon. Well, it's already happening!

A German company called Deutsche See will now purchase 80 electric Streetscooters from Deutsche Post. According to Bild.de, the electric vans will be adapted to fit the specific needs of Deutsche See. To preserve the fish during deliveries, each van will be equipped with a refrigeration unit, capable of storing 680 kilograms of fish.

Deutsche See executive director Egbert Miebach stated for «Bild am Sonntag» that "in the last 10 years, Volkswagen couldn't and wouldn't offer any electric solution for their commercial transportation needs."

Earlier this month, Deutsche Post also announced that they plan to double their production of electric delivery vans to up to 20,000 units by the end of this year. At the moment, the company is has 2,500 units active on German roads and 100 in the Netherlands.
