At the Seoul Motor Show, Hyundai and Kia announced they will jointly develop a dedicated electric vehicle platform.

Even though Kia has been partly owned by Hyundai since it went bankrupt in 2007, and similar models from both South Korean companies are known to share the same body structure, each company still creates independent designs of their cars. Recently, Hyundai and Kia announced that they will now work on a designated electric platform as well in order to become even more competitive with various EV models and longer ranges.

It is not expected for the new platform to be ready anytime this year; in fact, it's more likely to arrive in 2018 or later.
