Daimler is introducing its first all-electric school bus in the US. It will be built by Daimler's North American subsidiary Thomas Built Busses and will enter series production in 2019.

The electric bus will be called 'Saf-T-Liner C2 Electric Bus' or short 'Jouley' and will be able to safely and economicaly drive up to 81 kids. Energy will be stored in battery with the capacity of 160 kWh and will suffice for up to 160 kilometers of electric drive. In the case of demands for higher range bus can be equiped with additional battery packs.

The origins of Thomas Built Buses go back to 1916 and since then they were renovned for their iconic yellow school busses. Today they hold a 38.7 percent market share and are the biggest school buses builder in North America.
