The as of yet unknown VW electric car will reportedly use a new 48-volt on-board power supply technology, ensuring at least 300km of range. Since the car is still in its early developmental stages, there are no reports on whether the car will be a sedan or a hatch, but it's supposed to be based on the same platform as the next, eighth generation e-Golf (named MEB architecture), and is also said to come with a very unique styling.

Some reports state that this all-electric car for the masses with a longer driving range and lower price is Dr Herbert Diess' (Volkswagen's newly-appointed CEO) attempt to improve the company's brand image after the notorious scandal.

Experts from the automotive world estimate that the eco-friendly battery-electric vehicle could be arrive even before Golf 8 is launched in 2018.
