At the 2016 Madrid Motor Show, Nissan and a taxi company called Ciudad del Taxi announced that an order of 110 Leaf taxis with the larger 30-kilowatt-hour battery pack has just been placed. Madrid already ranks among the top European cities with the most electric taxis, but with the new ones arriving soon, the Madrid-based fleet will become even stronger.
This means Madrid could actually take the top spot as the city with the most electric taxis, taking away the crown from Amsterdam, where currently 100 Nissan Leaf electric taxis are cruising the streets.
Quite a few cities have already been equipped with Nissani Leaf and a taxi version of the e-NV200 electric van, including New York, where Nissan e-NV2009 rules as the standardized Big Apple taxi. According to Nissan, they have sold more than 800 Leaf and e-NV200 taxis to date, most of which currently operate all over Europe.
