Mercedes-Benz is one of the most productive 'classic' car manufacturers – ones who have proved themselves producing car, running on fossil fuels – that is now preparing for parallel production of electric cars. Quite a few prototypes have also been presented in the fast few years, which were said to be nearly production ready. Some were even pictured during different kinds of tests most recently at the end of this winter in Sweden.
It then came as a bit of a surprise, when at the beginning of last week Handelsblatt, German business daily newspaper reported, that first examples of Mercedes's brand new electric automobile, EQC SUV, promised to arrive at the dealership at the beginning of next year are going to be delayed. Instead, they should arrive no early than in June 2019, several months later. PHEV version of S-class, company's flagship saloon was also said to be delayed for the same reason. The reason for delays was said to be battery shortage and other technical problems.
Shortage of batteries for electric and plug-in cars is a thing, a lot of people in automotive industry have said could be one of the mayor problems in production of future electric cars. If this is also going to be the case, we will have to wait. In the meantime, Mercedes has already responded to Handelsblatt reports by saying there are going to be no delays with S-class, while on the other hand, he was quiet about EQC, which added even more fuel to speculations, that everything is not going according to plan.
