Genovation Cars, The Green Car Company, announced earlier this month that their prototype high-performance all-electric Corvette, the Genovation eXtreme Electric or GXE (based on a 2006 Z06) broke the record for the Top Speed Street Legal Electric Car category with a speed of 186.8 mph on February 23, 2016. The previous record was 177 mph, set by a Finnish prototype EV.
The record was set at the 3-mile-long and 300-foot-wide runway on Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds/Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida and certified by the International Mile Racing Association (IMRA).
GXE, optimized for a low center of gravity, is capable of producing 700-hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. It has a range of 130 miles (normal driving conditions) with a near 50/50 weight distribution.
We believe the EV record will be broken again soon, with numbers reaching way over 200 mph. Just think of Rimac Automobili's Concept_S that is claimed to burn the road with a maximum speed of 227 mph (365 km/h)! Besides that, other superfast, street-legal EVs are expected in the near future, so we're really looking forward to see how everything unfolds...
