Spy photographers caught the upcoming BMW Series 5, 'dressed' in light camouflage that gives a pretty good idea of what the exterior will look like once fully revealed.
As it appears, the next generation G30 BMW Series 5 will take over many design elements from the already announced Vision Connected Drive, developed by the Bavarians. These may also be included with the latest Series 7 model. It could very likely feature many construction and exterior elements made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), reducing the vehicle's overall weight.
The new BMW Series 5 could also represent the basics for a highly efficient model featuring a vrey economical 3V turbo-diesel engine. According to BMWBLOG website, it will be equipped with two plug-in hybrid drivetrains, based on BMW 330e technology; they are said to consist of a powerful combination of four-cylinder engines and electric motors.
BMW 530e is expected to have a power of around 280 hp and 35 km of pure electric range with a maximum speed of 120 km/h. The 540e model will develop a combined total system power of 326 hp and approximately up to 30 km in all-electric mode with a maximum speed of 120 km/h.
Both versions are expected to offer a wireless charging option.
