Toyota Motor Corporation together with partners will form a consortium Automotive Edge Computin Consortium, which will develop an ecosystem for connected cars to support future services, such as intelligent driving, maps with real-time data and driving assistance based on cloud computing.

Partners in consortium – beside Toyota Motor Coprporatino there are also Toyota Info Technology Center, Denso Corporation, Ericsson, Intel Corporation, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation and NTT Docomo – made an estimation, that the data volume beetwen cars and cloud could reach 10 exabytes per month by 2025. This is 10.000 times more than today.

If it is true, it also means, that the industry will need new architectures of network and computing infrastructure, which will support distributed resources and topology-aware storage capacities. There will also be a need for collaboration on local and global scale. Consortium will increase network capacity and develop edge computing to successfully accomodate big data between vehicles and the cloud. They will also define requirements and develop use cases for future mobile devices which will also become more standardised.
