We are still more than one year away from presentation of Volkswagen’s next generation of electric cars, the I.D. family (first to arrive is going to be the I.D. before the end of 2019, followed by I.D. Buzz and I.D. Crozz), however, more news about one particular car are now emerging on surface. They are connected to its price, which could encourage a lot of people to think about buying an electric car.

Well, we do not have its name yet, but according to the Bloomberg, Volkswagen is considering a possibility of presenting a small electric crossover with a price tag of just 18.000 euros or around 21.000 American dollars. The news has not been confirmed yet and sources has not been revealed due to the fact that Volkswagen still has to make a final decision. They are however closely connected to company’s senior officials.

If this becomes a reality, it can be a big hit for manufacturers like Tesla. Nissan or Hyundai, who are already producing ‘affordable’ electric cars. We are talking about Model 3, Leaf and Hyundai’s Kona and Ioniq, which still cost around 30.000 euros or more. Still, especially the last pair (particularly Kona) is facing a huge demand from customers in Europe; company is actually having trouble with supplying enough cars.

Nevertheless, once it arrives on the market after 2020, this crossover is going to represent the base of Volkswagen electric offer, with Volkswagen (unofficially) planning to build around 200.000 of them every year.
