At the moment, production of battery cells is mostly limited to China, which is also the biggest consumer for electric cars. Nevertheless, even European manufacturers are importing their batteries from Far East, but not for long. Their production is establishing in Europe also with most of them already preparing for this important step. Even so, Volkswagen is, or so it looks, one step in front of them all.

Having transformed their plant at Zwickau to one with neutral carbon foot print Volkswages nnow openig a center for development and production of packs,. Production plant is being built at Salzgitter and shuld provide safe job to around 1.000 workers. It should start to work full time in 2023.
