Volkswagen is developing a race car, which on 24 june 2018 will take part on most renowned mountain race, Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and will be all electric and all wheel driven. The plan is bold as they want not to just win but also to set a new record for electric cars.

Dr Frank Welsch, Member of the Board responsible for Development, explained: "Our electric race car will be equipped with innovative battery and drive technology. The extreme stress test on Pikes Peak will give us important findings that will benefit future development, and it will showcase our products and their technologies."

It is more or less all, what Volkswagen published about its mountain racer, which is joint project of Volkswagen Motorsport and Volkswagen's Technical Development in Wolfsburg. It will also be Volkswagen's first entry after thirty years ago, in 1987, Volkswagen took part in the race with spectacular twin-engined Golf, which barely missed finishing.
