Volvo XC40 had already brought some of Volvo's major innovations in recent years, with the arrival of factory car Rental, which Volvo is slowly introducing to other cars as well. But innovations are not over. As of today, the Volvo XC40 became the first electric car of Swedish brand, with its presentation today, taking a new big step towards the sustainable development of the brand, an important part of which electric cars will be.

Although it is an electric car, built on the basis already existing vehicle, there has been some new solutions made by Volvo. But first, let's focus on the essence: propulsion. Volvo XC40 gave an electric design a brand-new code, P8, with a pair of 150 kilowatt engines hiding behind it – one on each axis of the vehicle, which together will produce 600 Newtonmeters of torque. Their power will be supplied by a battery pack (which focuses on maximising the use of recycled raw materials) with a capacity of 72 kilowatt hours, based on standard 400 volt technology.

In other words, the XC40 will be on one hand useful and powerful on the other. Volvo promises that the vehicle will be able to run over 400 kilometres on a single charge, and the battery pack will be capable of charging up to 80 per cent of capacity using fast chargers within 40 minutes. At the same time, an additional luggage compartment was fitted to the site of the former petrol (or diesel) engine, next to a tyre filling compressor. On the other hand, the very electric motor that is mentioned will provide accelerations that even some sports cars would not be ashamed of. The acceleration of up to 100 kilometres per hour will only take 4.9 seconds.

The specific innovation introduced by the electric volvo XC-40 is the info-fun system, which is constantly and automatically updated. Volvo is the first automotive manufacturer to be connected to Google, and then in the new system, which is the world's first based on the operating system Android on a new, customized services, such as Google Maps, Google, Web and so on. Consequently, it should provide the best voice-management system through which it will be possible to browse, configure the air-conditioning and even send text messages. At the same time, as the first car, it will allow wireless upgrading of the system via the air, through the cloud. The updates will thus be carried out in exactly the same way as smart mobile phones.
