Schwarzenegger: "This amazing off-road vehicle as a clean and fast electric car? A dream has come true!"

World premiere at Kitzbuehel: Kreisel Electric and Arnold Schwarzenegger unveil fully electrified Mercedes G-Class.

The specialist for electromobility Kreisel Electric has electrified the off-road vehicle Mercedes G 350 d. At the Hahnenkamm race in Kitzebuehel they presented the electric car to the public for the very first time. With his personal enthusiasm about this car, one man especially contributed to its design and development: Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the near future, the actor and former governor of California will test drive the prototype in Los Angeles and continue to develop it further together with Kreisel Electric.

„In the US, Arnold has been driving the well-liked off-road vehicle, which is produced in Graz (Austria), for decades. Together we came up with the idea to modify this Mercedes and turn it into an electric vehicle which is ecological but dashing", says Christian Schlögl, Member of the Management at Kreisel Electric. Ever since Schwarzenegger's activities as governor of California, his engagement for renewable energies and electromobility has continued tirelessly.

"To me, with the electric version of this fantastic car, a dream has become true", Schwarzenegger said in Kitzbuehel last weekend. "The initial test drive was a real pleasure: The Kreisel is incredibly sporty and perfectly benefits from the advantages e-mobility has to offer. I really look forward to the following test runs and to the gradual further development in California."

The off-road vehicle was converted by Kreisel Electric during a two-month developmental period and convinces with a realistic electric range of 300 kilometres. This is enabled by the high-performance battery with an overall capacity of 80 kilowatt hours (battery weight: 510 kg). "The Kreisel battery is distributed within the car in segments: under the bonnet, in the rear, where it replaces the fuel tank and underneath the entry", Schlögl reveals. For this rea-son, the e-vehicle lies at level with its role model when it comes to both off-road capability and gradeability. Additionally, all comfort functions are still accessible.

Several electric motors with reduction gears have been fitted directly onto the transfer gear-box while the main gear unit was eliminated.

The powerful electric vehicle puts 360 kW (490 PS) on the road and reaches a maximum speed of 183 km/h. 100 km/h can be reached with-in 5.6 seconds – making the electric car 3 seconds faster than the original diesel with its V6-engine. In just 25 minutes the e-car can be fast-charged up to 80 percent of its full capacity.
