The family sized EV named Sion is a product of German startup company Sono Motors, which first attracted attention after launching successful crowdfunding campaign in 2016.

Now, one year later, they presented product of their campaign, electric car with theoretical range of 250 kilometers, top speed of 140 kilometers per hour, powered by an 80 kW asynchronous electric motor. Projected price is 16.000€, excluding Li-Ion batteries with the capacity of 35 kWh, which will be available for a monthly rent or for one time purchase for less then 4.000 euro.

The most interesting feature of Sion is certainly a self-charging function called viSono, which features solar cells with the surface of 7,5 m2, which are integrated in body panels. Generated solar power can provide enough energy for up to 30 kilometers of range per day (in ideal circumstances), which could prove very attractive for daily commuters and average needs of families, which are prime target audience for the car. There's also a biSono function, which serves for bi-directional charging and allows Sion to become a mobile storage unit with the power of 6,6 kW, which can even be used to charge other electric vehicles or power household appliances.

Sono Motors will need at least 5.000 reservations to start production, which is planned for the second quarter of 2019. They collected 1.200 reservations already on the day of official presentation of Sion on July 27th.
