Audi, BMW and Daimler acquired the majority of shares with the leading digital mobility technology provider or digital mapping and location services provider - the company HERE - which, until recently, had been owned by Nokia.

In doing so, the company HERE has been provided the developmental support, while Audi, BMW and Daimler gained access to high-resolution road maps in connection with the real-time location information which will provide the users with up-to-date and accurate information on the real world in real time. Namely, the mapping technology by the company HERE gathers data from various sources such as car systems, smart phones, transport or logistic buildings and infrastructure elements, and then assembles them into a coherent, accurate and clear image.

Today, HERE gathers data for road maps from more than 80.000 sources utilizing several billions probes, however, it also strives to connect with millions of cars and their sensors by which it gathers data on the immediate surroundings of the vehicles. The HERE's technology also plays a vital role in the development of the autonomous car the inception of which is impossible without accurate and up-to-date digital maps.

HERE, having experienced three decades of successful development, presently employs 6.500 people, and their maps are used in navigation systems in four out of five new cars sold in Europe and North America.
