Commissioned by Liuzhou Municipality Urban Planning, the green Liuzhou Forest City with offices, houses, hotels, hospitals and schools is now under construction in the north of Liuzhou, in the mountain area of Guangxi (southern part of China) and is expected to be completed by 2020.

According to Stefano Boeri, who designed this stunning vision in green, the new city will host 30,000 people, absorb almost 10,000 tons of CO2 and 57 tons of pollutants per year and produce approximately 900 tons of oxygen, which is nothing short of amazing! This energy self-sufficient urban establishment will use geothermal energy for interior air-conditioning and solar panels over the roofs for collecting renewable energy. It will be connected to the existing Liuzhou via fast rail services and electric cars.

In 138.5 ha Liuzhou Forest City residents and visitors will be able to admire in total 40,000 trees and almost 1 million plants of over 100 species. You won't see them in the parks and gardens or along the streets, Stefano Boeri explains, but also all over building facades, thus improving air quality in the city. But there will be more to the city than plants - the immense biodiversity of living species will inhabit the Liuzhou territory as well!

As was the case with studio's previous extremely successful project, the Vertical Forest project in Milan, the Liuzhou Forest City project Stefano Boeri Architetti may also be replicated in other parts of the world, doing wonders for urban environments that face climate change and heavy pollution.
