A new system is built in the new Protean360+ shuttle.

When cities around the world will become inaccessible for cars – slowly, yet surely they are already becoming – solutions for ‘last mile’ deliveries will need to be implemented. Some has already been presented by several companies from around the world, including by Protean, who is now presenting a revolutionary vehicles, a shuttle that is going to be usable in any kind of traffic conditions including small and tight parking spaces. All of this thanks to a clever solution.

Protean has named the 360+ because of its special ability to be moved front, back and to every side or even to spin around its center of gravity. The solution to it are its four wheels that reminds to those on supermarket trollies. They move independent from each other and further move, they each have their own electric motors, which means, there will none in central part of the vehicle, making more space for occupants.

The whole system also brings some other innovations. For instance, it will use patent-pending quad-pivot wishbone design, which will bring even more compact design of each vehicle and arm. This new innovation is also going to be connected to pneumatic suspension, which will enable the bus to kneel to a curb, enabling steeples access to occupants. How many of them will be able to fit in is yet unknown, but they will be able to fit in from both sides or from the back.

“Transport-as-a-Service urban mobility is gaining momentum, and with it the need for a new class of urban transport vehicles,” explains KY Chan, CEO of Protean Electric. “Whether shared or private, for passengers or goods deliveries, human-driven or autonomous, these new vehicles will require new technologies to be fit for purpose. The Protean360+ corner module was borne from our team’s innovative thinking about how to meet the requirements for these next-generation urban vehicles.”
