Renault is, thanks to models like ZOE, Kangoo Z.E., Twizzy and few others without any doubts one of the pioneers of e-mobility in modern age, at least in Europe. Consequently is one of the most important manufacturer of electric cars in the Old world so it is quite interesting, that French carmaker is not present in Chinese market yet. However, this is going to change quite soon all thanks to a model that has essentially been built for Asian market, Kwid.
Renault has showed its intention to make an electric version of Kwid last autumn, when it showed an electric version of the car in prototype version called Kwid Zero Emissions. Production version is now going to be premiered in Shanghai car show (which this year hosts Chinese’s biggest car show since it was hosted by Beijing last year), along with the new name: City K-ZE. This also means that City K-ZE is about to become Renault sixth electric car.
Presenting the car in Shanghai is not a consequence. After all, Renault is going to produce it in collaboration with Dongfeng Motor Group, Chinese partner with whom Renault has established an alliance called Dongfeng Renault Automobile Company or DRAC. Still, it will not be exclusively sold on Chinese market, meaning European buyers will also be able to get their hands on. When this is going to happen is not yet known but we are sure we will know, once car show starts.
