The basis of the solar charging station DRIVECO Parasol is a wooden lattice structure accommodating the 150 m² of solar panels. It forms a canopy that offers 'shelter' for up to seven electric cars, scooters or electric bicycles that can be charged at the charging point simultaneously - each Parasol is universal and can offers power 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. Customers can choose between two modes: regular and fast charging.

The charging station comprises of 88 photovoltaic panels and lithium ion batteries for generating and storing solar energy. The electricity can be redistributed round the clock even in periods of low sun intensity and shared in a network of several Parasols by means of a "smart grid" intelligent energy management system.

DRIVECO and Peugeot Design Lab already turned on a Parasol on 14 March at Bastia, while the second one was commissioned at Ajaccio. With both Parasols now in place, DRIVECO has inaugurated the first smart solar road in the world.
