Did you know that 50% of the plastic that we use is only used once before being thrown away?
"From there, it takes approximately 450 years for a single plastic bottle to degrade. Virtually every single piece of plastic that has ever been created, still exists on the planet today and if we do nothing, by 2050 - there will be more plastics than fish in the sea. But we can change that," are the words of an artist Benjamin Von Wong who came along with a special idea - a project called Mermaids hate plastic.
He and his team of volunteers have given us mermaids swimming in a sea of more than 10.000 plastic bottles! Bottles were borrowed from Tomra, a waste management centre and over the course of a few days, a small army of volunteers came to help de-label, un-cap and clean them and than the magic happened. With a help of a group of amazing people who believe that change happens when individuals come together to fight for something they believe in.
On Von Wong blog you can see all details of how they did it and if you want to reduce the amount of plastic in your life and support the project you can sign a petition here.
